The Final Twist is a Houston-based writers group dedicated to supporting our authors, promoting reading, and giving back to the community at large. Several times a year we plan free events such as our Write-In that coincided with NaNoWriMo in November and, in March, an author panel on developing strong female characters.
On May 6th, in collaboration with Free Comic Book Day*, we invite our members and the public to a discussion with author Gene Phillips, who will share some of his fascinating findings about superheroes and other similar fantasy creations. His work-in-progress includes insights in line with the ideas of psychologist Carl Jung and myth-scholar Joseph Campbell. Gene has been published in fan magazines like The Comics Journal and the film magazine, Delirious. In addition, one of his essays will be published in a forthcoming book collection.
*Free Comic Book Day at the library will also include fun activities like games, crafts, a costume and a trivia contest.

Normally, meetings are on the first Saturday of the month, our venue schedule and holidays allowing. Please visit our Meetings page for more detailed information. The first three meetings you attend have no charge, as you get to know us and find out if the group is a good fit for you. After that, we ask for you to join the group officially. There are benefits to joining, including participating in the group anthologies.
